Bottle and brew in the Vale.
The dozens of gins at The Salopian Inn is a sure sign the local drinks offer is changing. For a great local beer or cider, head to Goodieson Brewery. Their tasting bench is in full view of their bottling, providing a unique beer tasting experience. When the bottling line is running their staff are more than happy to explain what is going on. The region is also home to Vale Brewing (look out for its new Fox Hat Brewing range). Red Poles offers Vale Brewing beer tasting paddles, perfect to taste before enjoying a hearty lunch. Another local beer, Swell Brewing, is made by surfer Dan Wright. In a sign of the times, Wirra Wirra’s new café, Harry’s, is serving beers! “Swell beers of course,” says CEO Andrew Kay. “Dan grows grapes for us, so we thought we had better do the right thing!”
Attention whisky lovers: the new McLaren Vale Distillery will be specialising in single-batch malting. The Distillery has recently opened its tasting room and their vision is big. They are seeking to create an artisan village complete with a brewery and cheese maker. They currently host functions and events and also offer tours of their impressive distillery – the copper vats are very impressive. Look out for the first whiskies in May 2017.
