Celebrating 15 years of local produce at the Willunga Farmers Market and discovering other great regional markets across the McLaren Vale Wine Region.
Willunga Farmers Market is a great place to source locally grown produce. As one of the first established in Australia, the Willunga Farmers Market remains one of the most respected and a great model which others have followed.
In 2017, the market celebrated its 15th birthday, with stallholders still as proud as ever to deliver fresh local produce every Saturday.
It’s not just produce the market delivers to the local community. Their Young Farmers Scholarship is an example of the market’s commitment to supporting younger generations in pursuing a career in farming. The inaugural scholarship winners in 2014, Jay Kimber and Alex Steimanis are both thriving local growers, who showcase produce driven businesses in the region.
Alex loves the support from the community and regional chefs, which sustains the active local produce scene. He supplies a number of top restaurants and eateries in the region from his farm, Cleanslate Produce. “It makes for a great culinary experience when chefs are using fresh produce that’s been pulled out of the ground that morning,” he says.
